The writer of a new play about Lockerbie that opens on Saturday said the timing of Mr Megrahi’s death is “utterly uncanny”.

Alan Clark’s drama “The Lockerbie Bomber” is being premiered in Falkirk by Tryst Theatre. Members of the “Justice for Megrahi” campaign will be in the audience.

He said: “I wrote the play last summer and Tryst have been working on it since January. The fictional starting point was that Mr Megrahi had just died, and as a result journalists attempt to lift the veil of secrecy thrown over the case by the US and UK security services.

“It's unbelievable - fiction has eerily become fact as the sad news of his death in Tripoli comes through.”

He added: “Many of the issues being discussed today after his death are examined in detail in the play which, for the actors and the audience, will now have far greater poignancy."

“The Lockerbie Bomber” will be staged in Falkirk Town Hall, Falkirk, on Saturday May 26 at 8pm. Tickets, £7 and £5 (concessions) are available from the The Falkirk Steeple Box Office on 01324 506850, the Tryst Theatre Box Office on 01324 715886 or at the door on the night.
