Tryst Theatre is proud to announce its thirtieth anniversary production, Whisky Galore.

It is 1942 and World War Two is well underway but, on the Outer Hebridean islands of Great Todday and Little Todday, there is a far more serious threat to contend with – there is an acute shortage of whisky!

Things look pretty grim for the islanders, but salvation is at hand when the S.S. Cabinet Minister runs aground with 50,000 cases of whisky in its hold. Can the locals outwit the pompous Captain Waggett of the Home Guard and save some of the precious uisge beatha for themselves?

Based on the novel by Compton Mackenzie, James Scotland’s superb Scots comedy also follows the troubled engagements of two young couples. One must persuade the bride’s evasive father to set a date, while the other couple must conquer the groom’s domineering mother.

Back in 1978, Whisky Galore was the first production of the newly-formed Tryst Theatre and five of that original cast are involved again this time round.

“That these members have stayed with us for so long is tribute both to their passion for drama and to the reputation of the club itself,” said President Frank T. Murray.

“As well as these Tryst stalwarts, the club is delighted to have four new faces and a couple of old friends among the cast for what are certain to be three wonderful nights of theatre.”

Larbert-based BenRiach Distillery Company has kindly agreed to sponsor the show. The company is one of the country’s leading independent brands, producing a wide range of award-winning Speyside single malts from its distillery near Elgin.

Frank T. Murray notes: “As it is a locally-based distiller, there was really only one company we could ask to sponsor us for this show. As an added bonus, everyone at the club is agreed BenRiach is a very good dram. Slainte mhath!

The club also thanks Mitchells Roberton, Glasgow’s oldest firm of solicitors, for its continued support throughout the 2008 season.

Whisky Galore will be performed in Bowhouse Community Centre, Grangemouth on Saturday 8th, Sunday 9th and Monday 10th November at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £7 (£5 concessions), are available by calling 01324 715886 or from the Steeple Box Office.
