Tryst Announces New Autumn Show

Sep 21, 2007

Tryst Theatre's autumn show will be the hilarious Scots comedy Cambusdonald Royal by James Scotland.

It will be staged in Grangemouth's Bowhouse Community Centre on November 10-12.

The play is set in Brother Barnabas's cell in the Abbey of Cambusdonald in the Lothians of Scotland in April 1465.

The monks' routine is disrupted when Mother Mary and fifty-seven nuns from the nearby convent of St. Ursula's seek refuge in the monastery after their building is accidentally destroyed by two less-than-holy sisters who have been distilling a secret liqueur.

The antics of Brother Barnabas and his sidekicks Brother Donatus and Brother Simon further complicate matters, while the imminent arrival of the top Cardinal in the land adds to the general mayhem with hilarious results.

Alan Clark attempts to direct the entertaining madness and the cast of thirteen features a blend of experienced actors and a new face.

The lead role of Brother Barnabas is played by Jim Allan and he is brilliantly supported by such stalwarts as Brian Paterson as Brother Donatus, Brian Tripney as Brother Simon, Malcolm Newlands as the Abbot, Amanda Gourlay as Mother Mary, Joanne Davidson as Sister Diligence, Jennifer Marjoribanks as Sister Innocentia, Rhona Law as Helen of Troy, Gary Grugen as Lawrence of Liddesdale, Carol Clark as Messalina, Alan Clark as the Cardinale Legate and Frank T Murray as Brother Humphrey.

The set construction is in the capable hands of Roberto de War and Peter "Bob the Builder" Tripney.

Tryst President Frank T Murray said: "We last did a James Scotland farce some twenty years ago so it's high time to re-introduce our audiences to his madcap comedy.

"And we're delighted to welcome Katie Marjoribanks who makes her acting debut with Tryst in the role of Berengaria de Rohan.

"Cambusdonald Royal is a great laugh from beginning to end. As it's likely to be very popular, early booking is advisable. Tickets, priced £7 and £5 (concessions) are now available from the Tryst Box Office on 01324 715886."
