Thanks to Tryst Theatre, Grangemouth's Bowhouse Community Centre is moving two hundred miles south to Blackpool!

For in November the award-winning theatre group is staging John Godber's classic comedy September in the Rain which is set in the country's favourite holiday spot.

Local theatre-goers with long memories will recall that Tryst last staged the bitter-sweet play in 1995 to great critical acclaim. It was the top play in Scotland that year and the club also took it to Israel where it ran to rave reviews.

Eleven years on, the two actors are the same - the wonderful Carol Clark and Jim Allan as Liz and Jack.

It's the 1950s and we're off to Blackpool where, once a year, the bickering Yorkshire couple take their holiday on the beach. But it's September, so the weather is always dodgy, hence the title!

Jack is a gruff, proud, broad-shouldered coal miner who cries whenever he sees ''The Student Prince.'' Liz is a long-suffering, friendly woman eager for small adventures in their new Ford Popular.

Over a period of thirty years we see them returning to the same dingy room in the same hotel, eating ice cream, sunbathing - and growing old. By the end of the sepia-tinted play, they are at the end of the road. They have moved from a lover's ''September in the Rain'' to a pensioner's ''September Song,'' both of which are sung in the course of the evening.

In two hours, Jim and Carol effortlessly evoke donkey rides and deckchairs, sun cream and sandcastles, talent contests and the Tower - and of course, the good old British weather!

Tryst President Frank Murray said: "The comedy is an affectionate and sometimes moving tale, a very human story of familiarity, warmth and nostalgia.

"It conjures up this lost world of seaside holidays so vividly that, even if you're a member of today's Costa del Sol generation, you can almost feel the Blackpool sand in your socks and hear the rain bouncing off your pac-a-mac."

September in the Rain runs in Bowhouse Community Centre from November 11-13.
