And the pizza on the wall behind them is a mouthwatering reminder of what audiences can expect on the night.

Your ticket gets you a delicious pizza, a drink and this wonderful madcap comedy by award-winning writer John Byrne which celebrates the life and times of FS McDade, possibly the worst writer to emerge from Paisley.

Tryst Theatre are returning to the stage after a two-year absence in a tongue-in-cheek homage to McDade. The joke is that his deluded followers in the Nitshill Writing Circle think he’s a genius, but we quickly find he is a talentless idiot.

Critics of his work are unanimous.

Said one: “Writing so bad you’ll hyperventilate.”

Another opined: “Makes you want to bleach your brain.”

The legendary critic Tristan Fabriani best sums up McDade’s lasting influence. Writing in Tit-Bits, he notes:

“In terms of Scottish literature, McDade is the high watermark, and should be seen in the same context as Minnie the Minx, Oor Wullie, The Broons and Desperate Dan.”

The play stars Jim Allan (who also directs), Alan Clark, Carol Clark, Rhona McColl and Brian Paterson who amongst them play fifteen different characters with the same number of frantic costume changes. It’s surreal, witty, wacky, a hoot and great fun.

Writer’s Cramp will run in Behind the Wall from April 25-29. Tickets, £12, are now available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/trysttheatre

Please note Friday 29th is sold out. McDade is thrilled; it's the first time he's ever sold anything.
